Who Are Executive-Level Employees?

63 2022/05/16
There are many levels an employee can achieve as they progress further and further into their career path. Starting at entry-level, they will eventually become an executive. Today, we will talk about executive-level workers. What they do, how they got there, and what are their next steps?

What do executive-level workers do?

Executive-level employees are veterans who have accumulated enough experience, knowledge, and merits to be trusted with a high or executive position in a company. Some positions of highly-skilled workers are CEO, CFO, COO, General Manager, Managing Director, Department Directors, and more leadership roles. They are charismatic people who have earned the respect of their co-workers, and are highly capable of leading and pointing those in their team toward the right direction. Their roles in their company are mainly directing, leading, planning, and making important decisions.

How did they get there?

There are many factors to becoming an executive-level employee. Here are 3 important factors:

Education Level (degree) : A degree does not reflect fully on a person’s ability and knowledge. However, it is an important testimony to what level one has at least achieved. Therefore, it is extremely important for a person to have a higher education degree or more to be able to become an executive-level employee. Having obtained these degrees means that a person has been exposed to an environment that requires discipline, critical thinking, decision making, problem-solving, and more soft and hard skills. These skills are extremely valuable for an executive.

Experience: Experience is the undisputed most important factor in a person becoming an executive-level employee. To be able to hold such positions, one needs to be able to lead, make decisions, solve problems, handle pressure, socialise, plan and execute plans, predict outcomes, and more. These skills can only be achievable through countless hours of work experience. Often, those who are able to somehow achieve an executive position without enough experience are unable to maintain the position and lose it to those with enough experience.

Employment History: It often takes many years for an employee to achieve an executive position. Those who remain with one company for many years hold an advantage over those who switch jobs frequently, since they would not have to rebuild their workplace merits. Remaining in one workplace for many years also shows that one is loyal and committed to the company, which are important traits that owners, and/or investors look for when looking for an executive employee. Having a bad employment history can lead to one not obtaining an executive position even when they are fully qualified.

What are their next steps?

Those who have attained the position of an executive know that they have reached the end of a career path. Their next steps would usually involve investing, starting a business, or moving to manage branches of the company they are working for. They are the epitome of great employees and are likely to succeed in any path they decide to walk on in the future. Depending on their working conditions, they may also decide to stick with their position, and remain in their company for many more years or until they retire.
